From Grad School to Workplace: Navigating Success, Support, and Challenges among Asian American and Pacific Islander Scholars
This session is part of the programming of the Asian Caucus and represents the perspective of the presenters and has not been reviewed or endorsed by the Society for Research in Child Development and/or the Society’s Governing Council.
Hosted by the SRCD Asian Caucus
In the Fall of 2024, the SRCD Asian Caucus Social Policy subcommittee circulated an online survey to the SRCD members. The goal was to explore the experiences, resources, and challenges of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) scholars and how they navigate their barriers and achieve successes at different stages of their careers (e.g., students, researchers, pre-tenure and tenured faculty). We received responses from a diverse group of AAPI scholars across multiple institutions, with a majority from the U.S. institutions that are Predominantly White, spanning 20 U.S. states and six countries. In this Conference Roundtable session, we will report on the survey results (n=65). Panelists and audiences will then share their experiences, provide interpretations/feedback of the findings, and discuss social policy implications of our findings.
