Thriving in Mid-Career and Beyond
This session is part of the programming of the Asian Caucus and represents the perspective of the presenters and has not been reviewed or endorsed by the Society for Research in Child Development and/or the Society’s Governing Council.
Hosted by the SRCD Asian Caucus
The mid-career period is often overlooked in professional development, yet it presents a number of unique challenges and opportunities that can shape long-term career trajectories. Post-tenure, mid-career academics may find themselves at different crossroads: they may explore new research directions, consider new opportunities in teaching or public scholarship, or weigh the costs and benefits of stepping into new administrative and leadership positions. Further complicating these decisions is the fact that they are often made within a larger context of shifting work-life priorities and demands. This panel will discuss ways in which to navigate these mid-career crossroads, as well as the broader question of what it looks like to thrive in mid-career. Our panelists include faculty who are currently navigating mid-career decisions, as well as those who have made the successful transition to full professor. Panelists are faculty at research universities and primarily undergraduate institutions in both Asia and North America, and will be able to discuss challenges, opportunities, and expectations across diverse academic settings
